I’m absolutely cocoa for cocoa puffs crazy for the human design system.
Ever since I discovered the power of it and how human design can be used to my advantage in my life, I’ve dived in deep and haven’t looked back (I also integrate human design in my pain management coaching program).
Who doesn’t want the very best out of life right?
Hey, if there’s a way that can show me how I can get what I want in an easier way that doesn’t require mind or magic tricks, I’m all over it like a bag of chips!
I’m certified in Human Design and a certified Quantum Alignment System™ Specialist. The Quantum Human Design™ system was created by life coach Karen Curry Parker ( who also happens to be the world’s best selling author on Human Design).
Time to get to the post.
Close your eyes and think of human design as a blueprint for your human experience and condition.
It can be an effective tool to help you discover your source of emotional pain.
The energy within gates and channels gives you the opportunity to express the high or low frequency of these energies.
Once you’re aware of these energies (or life themes), you can unlock and heal what has hurt you over time. By unlocking and using your human design chart, you can live the life you have always desired.
So what exactly is human design anyway and what’s the big deal about it?
In this post, I’m going to lay down the very basics that you need to know if you’re new to it. I’m keeping it this way because there are a lot of parts to human design and this blog post won’t be dealing with all of them. Additionally, human design body graph and human design chart mean the same thing.
Let’s get into it.
Human design is a holistic self-knowledge system combining:
Chinese Astrology divides astrological signs by years, whereas western Astrology separates them by months. The Chinese believe that people born in the same year share the same traits, whereas Westerners group people on a month-by-month basis.
When you look at your human design chart, you’ll see glyphs for the planets and lunar nodes.
Chinese I Ching
The I Ching or “Book of Changes” is an ancient Chinese divination book of wisdom that interprets hexagrams (symbols made up of six stacked horizontal lines) formed by tossed coins to form answers to questions about the future.
It’s believed to have been written by a legendary emperor of China named Fu Hsi. For over 5000 years, the I Ching has been used by many Chinese to help with decision making and predicting the future.
Kabbalah is sometimes translated as “mysticism” and is a part of the Jewish tradition that deals with the essence of God. Kabbalists believe that true knowledge and understanding of the inner process are achievable and with this knowledge, great intimacy with God can be achieved.
Quantum theory was developed in the early 1900s and states that light is made up of tiny units or quanta of energy known as photons. It explains the nature and behavior of matter and energy on the atomic and subatomic levels.
The chakra system originated in India between 1500 to 500 BC. The word chakra comes from the Sanskrit meaning ‘wheel” or “disk” and refers to a spiritual energy center in the body. There are seven chakras:
- Solar Plexus
- Third Eye
Each chakra represents an energy center along the spine and the crown which is above the head. It’s believed that the chakras are associated with many physiological functions and levels of consciousness.
I’m currently enrolled in a program to earn certification as a Chakra master so look out for future posts about the chakra system.
What is human design used for?
Human design reveals where and how to access your body’s consciousness as a decision-making tool, and ultimately, how to live as your true self.
The human design system also:
- Uncovers your genetic design and life purpose
- Shows your gifts, your weaknesses and your potential for wisdom
- Shows how you consistently experience the world around you
Some of the benefits of living the highest expression of your human design chart is being:
- Fully engaged and joyful
- Evolving by learning from and leaving the past behind
- Consciously and consistently expressing your authentic potential and making a unique contribution to the world
Is human design accurate?
In order to generate an accurate human design chart, you’ll need your birth date, birth time and location of your birth. The human design system reveals a kind of roadmap or blueprint of your psychological, emotional and energetic tendencies.
I’ve been studying my human design chart for over a year (I’m a manifesting generator) and I’m in awe of what I discover the deeper I dive in. Revelations hit me in the face as I think “ah so that’s why I do that.” It’s very bang on.
Don’t know your exact birth time? Try the following:
- Ask your mom or dad to see if they remember
- Contact the vital statistics office in your province or state to request your birth time
If you still don’t have an exact birth time, you can contact an astrologer that specializes in determining your birth time based on your significant life events.
What does Defined mean in human design?
Definition is what is fixed and reliable within you and determines how you express your particular traits and skills. It’s what makes you unique and different from anyone else. Your human design chart is like a fingerprint, no two human design charts are the same.
What does Open mean in human design?
Open centers in your human design chart create predictable patterns of behavior and mistaken motivations in your relationships.
All open centers and gates amplify energy and make it easy to think these energies are yours. You believe you have energy that’s consistent for you but this isn’t the case.
When you understand openness, you gain awareness to break these patterns and with intention create a different response to these energies.
Your open centers teach you how to be deeply wise about the nature of these energies. With this awareness, you now have choices and freedoms of how to use these energies instead of feeling locked and trapped to make decisions from energies that aren’t yours.
Who started human design?
Ra Uru Hu developed the human design system. He was born (Alan Robert Krakower) on April 9th, 1948 in Montreal, Canada.
In January 1987, he had a mystic experience while on the island of Ibiza. He received intelligence from an “inner voice” not his own over an 8 day period that delivered the human design system.
A couple of years later he wrote the Rave I’Ching which is the cornerstone of which human design rests and the go to guide to learn more about the gates in the human design body graph.
What is Incarnation Cross in Human Design?
Your incarnation cross is your authentic life path or your soul’s purpose. It tells the story of what you are here to do and learn while you’re here in your current lifetime (if you believe in reincarnation).
You have the choice to not live your path but you can’t help but live out your path partially because it comes naturally to you.
My incarnation cross is the right angle cross of the sleeping phoenix. I’m designed to respond to opportunities to bring together the right people around a transformative and powerful idea when the time and circumstances are right.
I’m also here to trust in sufficiency and to know that when I create abundance there’s great fulfillment in sharing and crafting partnerships and relationships that sustain me and others.
I think it’s so cool when you learn and understand about your incarnation cross. Now that I know what my cross is, it makes me feel empowered.
What is profile in human design?
There are 12 profiles in human design and each is made up of a combination of the 2 line numbers (which come from the 6 lines of the Chinese I’Ching).
The first line number represents your conscious personality and who you think you are (the black number). The second line number represents your unconscious design which represents your physical body. Both line numbers are calculated from the position of your personality sun/earth and design sun/earth.
Your profile is like the character that you play in the role of your life. Once you become aware of your profile, things start to make more sense and you begin to learn how to truly express and accept who you really are.
For example, I’m a ¼ profile (Line 1- Investigator/ Line 4- Opportunist). My first line basically means I’m a very research-oriented person and like to get to the bottom of things that interest me. In other words, I’m a research freak with my magnifying glass in my right hand.
In a nutshell, my 4th line is about sharing my knowledge and expertise on topics I’m passionate about with people in my network. In other words, I’m not for everyone but for those people that resonate and get what I have to say, we’ll be on an amazing journey together.
The six lines of the profiles are:
- Line 1 Investigator (Introspection)
- Line 2 Hermit (Projection)
- Line 3: Martyr (Adaption)
- Line 4: Opportunist (Externalization)
- Line 5 : Heretic (Externalization)
- Line 6: Role Model (Transition)
What is a center in Human Design?
The human design body graph is built on centers that are composed of geometric shapes. They’re like hubs that receive and emit energy that circulates throughout the body graph and they’re based on the Hindu chakra system.
What does defined and open mean in human design?
When you see a defined center in your human design chart, the energies associated with the center are what you radiate out into the world in a fixed consistent way. These are personality traits and mannerisms your friends and family notice about you and what you know about yourself.
An open center is where you experience your conditioning from outside influences and impacts your mind’s decision making process. This is what Ra Urh Hu referred to as the Not-Self.
What is a channel in human design?
A channel is a connection between the centers and is derived from the Kabbalah. When a gate at either end of a channel is defined (colored in), this creates definition and the channel becomes colored in your chart. The human design body graph has 32 channels.
Think of channels like highways through which life force flows from one center to another as well as one gate to another. The channels are like roads connecting the centers.
When a channel is defined, the 2 connected centers are communicating with one another and the themes of the energies in the gates and centers identify specific themes in your life, a gift or function that is reliable and fixed within you.
How many gates are in human design?
Each channel in the chart has two halves called gates and the 64 gates are derived from the Chinese I’Ching. The gates are very key in the human design body graph.
Defined gates add an extra bit of spice to your personality. When you look at your chart, some gates may be white (open) and others may be colored in (red or black). Gates colored in red represent energies you aren’t consciously aware of but other people near you may be.
Gates colored in black represent energies or traits that are a consistent part of your personality and ones you identify with.
A checkered gate(s) in your human design chart (colored black and red) indicates you express the energy of this gate both consciously and unconsciously.
What is strategy and authority in human design?
Your strategy comes from your type and is your personal way to make effective decisions.
“It gives you key information about how to operate your human vehicle in the world, how to make the right choices for you, and how to recognize when you are on the right path in life.”Karen Curry Parker
When you follow your strategy, you have the opportunity to experience events that are correct for you. If you don’t, you can experience events that aren’t correct for you.
If you learn to follow your strategy (which can take months or years of practicing), you have the potential of fulfilling your destiny.
Authority is a part of your human design that influences your decision making strategy. Strategy is the way you make decisions and authority reveals the way in which you make your decisions.
Your authority is determined by the centers in your human design chart and will have the most powerful effect on how you make decisions. Not all centers carry authority so your personal authority will depend on your type and definition.
What are the Human Design types?
When you discover your energy type, lots of light bulbs start to go off. It really is quite interesting.
The 5 human design energy types are:
Manifestors make up about 9% of the population. Their strategy is to inform others before taking action and to avoid anger. A human design Manifestor is here to understand their impact on other people.
They makeup about 35% of the population and are the driving life force of the planet. Their strategy is to respond before taking action, to find satisfaction, and avoid frustration. A human design Generator is here to know themselves.
- Manifesting Generator
Manifesting Generators make up about 33% of the population. They’re a hybrid of a Manifestor and a Generator. Their strategy is to wait to respond, inform others before taking action, and avoid anger and frustration. A human design Manifesting Generator is here to know themselves.
Projectors make up about 20% of the population. Their strategy is to wait for the invitation, to avoid bitterness, and find success. A human design Projector is here to understand others.
Reflectors makeup about 1% of the population and have no definition. Their strategy is to wait for a full cycle of the moon (which is about 28 days) before making a decision, to find surprise and avoid disappointment. A human design Reflector is here to see difference.
My intention was to give you a brief introduction to the human design system.
I can honestly say that it has changed my life because I know what my type, strategy and authority are for making good decisions for myself. Game changer!
