I’m fascinated by the Tarot.
Do you remember that breakfast cereal called Cocoa Puffs, where the bird squeaks out, “I’m cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs?” Well, I’m kind of like that with Tarot.
I love exploring the symbolism and meanings of the cards. I love reading tarot for myself and others. And, I even enjoy making up my own Tarot spreads.
But one thing I’ve noticed is that some people shy away from the Tarot.
They think it’s “superstitious,” or “woo-woo.”
Tarot is neither of those things.
It’s a powerful ancient tool that can be used for self-exploration, personal growth, and, yes, even chronic pain management.
If you want to manage your pain long-term, it’s important to take a step back and think about what you want your life to look like.
The Tarot can help you do just that.
When you have a crystal clear intention, it’s simpler to take the steps to get there.
And a Tarot deck is a low-cost investment that will provide you with years of advice!
If you’re at the breaking point with pain or looking for other ways to manage it, this post is for you.
I’ll go through the importance of setting clear intentions in Tarot readings and how they can help with chronic pain management.

What is Tarot and how can it be used to deal with chronic pain?
Tarot card readings have been used for centuries to help people gain insights into their lives.
Many people, like the late psychologist Dr. Carl Jung, believe the cards can tap into your subconscious mind. Tarot cards help you to see patterns in your life, which can be helpful when you’re trying to make changes.
If you want to manage your chronic pain, the Tarot can help you to identify any blocks that might be standing in your way.
By understanding the root cause of your pain, you can make empowering changes in your life that will help to improve your overall health and well-being.
I’ve been pulling Tarot cards for about a year now. I wish I had known about the power of the Tarot sooner!
I find the Tarot is an extremely helpful tool for managing any frustration or pain I’m experiencing.
If you’re struggling with chronic back pain, a Tarot reading may reveal repressed emotions that may cause pain.
The reading can help you identify the emotions that may cause your pain and suggest ways to release them.
While there’s no scientific evidence to support the use of Tarot readings for chronic pain management, I find them very helpful in gaining insights into my condition.

The importance of setting clear intentions before beginning a reading
For setting intentions for your Tarot reading, it’s important to be as specific as possible so you can optimize your reading experience.
- What do you hope to gain from your reading?
- What are your goals for managing your chronic pain?
- Are you seeking pain relief, or are you looking for ways to better manage your chronic pain?
When creating your intentions, be sure to focus on the present moment.
Try to avoid setting goals that are too lofty or unrealistic.
Lofty goals can lead to frustration, stress, and higher levels of body pain when you don’t hit them.
Rather than intending to “cure” your chronic pain, you may set an intention to “manage” it more effectively.
By keeping your intentions realistic and focused on the present moment, you can help to ensure that your reading is insightful and helpful.
Keep in mind there are no wrong intentions–whatever your intentions are, they’re valid and worth exploring.
Once you’ve set them, take a few deep breaths.
Allow yourself to relax.
Begin your reading with an open mind and heart, ready to receive whatever guidance comes from your higher self.

How to create clear intentions for your reading and what questions to ask
The Tarot is eye-opening for gaining clarity and insights into your life.
I throw my intentions into my Tarot cards like a fisherwoman casts her net into the sea.
What will the deep oceans of knowledge in the colors and symbols of my cards bring into my awareness?
Before you start your reading, take a few moments to focus on what you want to achieve (like Key 1 the Magician).
What areas of your life or body do you want insight into?
Asking specific, focused, open-ended questions will help you get the answers you’re seeking.
Try asking the Tarot questions such as “What do I need to know about my neck pain?” Or, “How can I release the emotions that are causing my migraines?”
Once you’ve clarified your intentions, it’s time to get your deck.
-Spend a few moments gently holding it close to your heart.
-Close your eyes, take a few deep breaths, and clear your mind.
-Focus on your intentions as you hold your deck. Imagine yourself surrounded by loving, protective Divine energy.

Next, you can recite a quick prayer before starting.
I begin my readings with an invocation so I can receive the messages I need to know to help with my evolution and growth.
You could say something like, “I am open to receiving guidance from my higher self. I trust in the messages I will receive.”
Now, you’re ready to begin your reading!
Take a few deep breaths and when you’re ready:
- Shuffle the deck any way you like
- Lay out the cards in whatever spread feels good to you
- Trust that the cards will guide you to the answers you seek
- Allow yourself to be open to the messages they have for you

What to do with the information you receive from your Tarot reading
It’s important to sit with the information you’ve received after your reading.
I recommend journaling about your reading or meditating on the meanings of the Tarot cards.
Trust your intuition when interpreting the messages.
The Tarot can provide guidance and clarity, but ultimately it’s up to you to decide what actions to take. Or not.
Some people believe the Tarot can predict the future.
I disagree.
A card in the likely future position can show the trajectory of your situation.
Let’s say the 9 of Swords (a card representing worry and anxiousness) comes up in that position.
What can you do so you can work with that card instead of against it?
Remember, the future is always changing.
Allow the messages from your reading to flow through you and trust you’ll know what to do with them.
Ultimately, only you have the power to choose the direction of your life.

How Tarot can help you connect with your body and manage chronic pain more effectively
If you’re struggling with chronic pain, the mystical world of Tarot may seem like an unlikely place to find relief.
But the Tarot can help you better understand and manage your pain by connecting you with your body and its needs.
Allow your intuition to guide you as you select the cards.

Try not to resist what may come up.
Feel it for as long as you need to and see if any insights or messages come through for you.
Record anything that comes up in your Tarot journal.
Final thoughts
Living with chronic pain is no joke.
Using Tarot cards can be a powerful tool to help you connect with your body and manage your condition more effectively.
By setting clear intentions before beginning your reading, asking open-ended questions, and taking action on the information you receive, you can make the most of your Tarot readings for chronic pain management.
